So close and yet…… Here’s the scoop on the remodel .
I’m feeling cooped up and cant wait for everything to be completed and for us to move back into our house. The remodel is moving along at a steady pace for the most part but days without the main builder and we are at a standstill. Details need to be finished up like plastering around the new kitchen window and the new slider doors.
Thursday now and I’m happy to say the plasterers spent the day here and finished the outside work, so this morning the painter could finish the job he started. There is still a lot of electrical work to be done and if the electrician could be here for a few days straight I feel it would be done. Bill took his time to check out the led lights so that held us up a bit too.
The fireplace is looking good with all the brick finally off and its now plastered, Javier did a great job with Howard. Not easy work with the god awful dust clouds billowing in the air. Javier’s a man thats needs to be cloned and if he was, the kitchen would be done.
Dave our painter whom we’ve used before is a professional with a large crew who’s attention to detail is bordering on OCD laugh out loud! days of prep work, and as I’ve learned from my brother Aidan, the prep is everything.
The weather has heated up and it’s 115 º so you can imagine whats it’s like to be outdoors working and indoors with no AC, its dam hot.
Dave arrives at 5.oo in the morning and his guys at 6.00. The exterior of the house looks amazing and it feels like a completely different house. We choose a vanilla white for the walls and a dark chocolate with a touch of black for the trim. Depending on the sunlight it can look many different shades. Its a sleek slick modern look yet with the greenery it’s has a softness to it and a classic look. The Gazebo looks impressive painted dark Cacao and I will put the outdoor curtains up when we are all done. The Casita looks so great.
The bedrooms and bathrooms are all finished and Bill and I are going to put the new closets together this weekend if we can stand the heat.
When the electrical and AC work is done, the hallway and kitchen ceiling drywall can happen. I pray they get here today to work on it. At the moment I am blogging in the Casita, Gilbert just finished the job on the skylights on the hot roof and is going to finish the inside of the skylights I hope.
The painters finished the second coat of stain on the deck and it looks awesome. I am literally watching paint dry. As soon as the ceiling is drywalled Dave can paint the hall.
Saturday morning at the crack of dawn Dave was here with one of his guys to paint the front door and a few hours later our front door looks amazing, fresh crisp and green as an apple. We love it. When they left Bill and I both started to clear off the counter to get it ready for the countertop guy who is coming Sunday to install the quartz stone. The fridge delivery arrived too so it was all go and getting warm. We drank our coffee and looked around and assessed what needed to be done that we could do, to move things along. Bill said ” I can do the lights, and with that he pulled out the ladder and began working on the lights in the hallway and is still working as I write. I love that he can put his mind to something and just do it. I tackled our bedroom and moved all the paintings and photographs and whatever else was in there into the Zen room. I removed all the booze, dried goods and whatever else I had loaded into the shower for storage when we started the remodel, and put it into the linen closet I’d just cleaned and mopped. I scrubbed the bathroom while listening to Hillary’s speech on KCRW. It felt good to be physical and I completed the task of clearing the bedroom and putting our space in order.
It’s a hot day 117º so every now and then I took a swim break to cool down. Now it’s time for some serious eats ah! what I’d give for a home cooked meal but alas we shall go out to dine once again.
I never thought I’d say it, but we’re tired of eating out.
